EXPOSITORY COMPOSITION SYLLABUS
Fall 2013
OBJECTIVE: This course is designed to rigorously advance your analytical, writing and speaking skills to a level appropriate for a “real world” setting. All students will need to address issues concerning laziness and/or shyness during this class. Plagiarism is regarded as a serious offense and will result in a failing grade.
The Senior Project acts as a bridge between high school and college and/or a career. Each student will write a research paper on a chosen topic and apply the knowledge h/she gained in a twenty-hour independent project. At the end of the semester, students present what they have learned to a panel of judges and turn in a portfolio of work to their teacher.
THE MONTH of SEPTEMBER:
Begin exercises in the Pathfinder Senior Project book
Topic Selection Analysis: Part 1; page 9 - 10
Steps to the Letter of Intent: pages 16 - 17
Turn in Letter of Intent
Turn in bibliography list
Conference with Ms. Bridges over your:

Review how to do bibliography cards and note cards
Begin research
Four note cards are due at the end of each class.
THE MONTH of OCTOBER:
October 1st: Must have forty notes cards completed
Begin outline of research paper (must be 10 to 12 pages long, not counting bibliography)
Conference with Ms. Bridges on outline
Begin working on rough draft of your research paper
Twice weekly conferences with Ms. Bridges
Write ten questions for the person you will interview for your research paper.
Complete task analysis for physical product in Pathfinder (pages 38 - 39)
OCTOBER 14TH:
ROUGH DRAFT IS DUE
OCTOBER 25 - 30TH:
REVISE AND TYPE FINAL DRAFT
OCTOBER 28TH:
TURN IN FINAL DRAFT ON OR BEFORE OCTOBER 28TH:
Complete interview and add to paper
THE MONTH of NOVEMBER:
Begin work on Powerpoint
Begin work on presentation
Thanksgiving Vacation: November 18th - 22nd
THE MONTH of DECEMBER:
Rehearse your presentation before the class
DECEMBER 6th:
TURN in POWER POINT
DECEMBER 11th:
TURN in LOG for PHYSICAL PROJECT
DECEMBER 12th:
SENIOR PROJECT PRESENTATION
DECEMBER 17 - 20th:
REFLECT on SENIOR PROJECT
TURN in SENIOR PROJECT PORTFOLIO
